Membership of City Choir Dunedin is open to singers from all walks of life who share our delight in choral singing. Here are some reasons why people sing with City Choir Dunedin:
- "Thank you City Choir you have given me hours and hours of wonderful moments which I value immensely."
- "I love singing and learning new music. I consider regular singing to be vital for my mental health. Also look forward to seeing choir members. They are like whanau."
- "I enjoy the music, the challenges of mastering the music, high standard of choral direction and performance, friendships, and singing with orchestral accompaniment."
We love what we do and enjoy making music together and presenting our art to the public.
Membership enquiries
We always welcome new singers! Please email the Membership Secretary at members@citychoirdunedin.org.nz
Rehearsals
Rehearsals commence on the last Tuesday of January each year and run until December. We rehearse every Tuesday night between 07:30 and 09:30 pm at the Mornington Presbyterian Community Centre, 16 Maryhill Terrace, Mornington, Dunedin. Click to view a street map to the MPCC location.
Transport problems? There is a convenient bus service to Mornington, but if you are having difficulty getting there we'll organise a ride for you.
Music Scores
Music scores are issued by the Librarian and are returned after the performance.
Auditions
All prospective new members are auditioned by the Musical Director. At the audition you will be asked to sing a song of your own choice, as well as perform some simple ear and voice tests to enable the Director to gauge your musical abilities and vocal range.
Financial Commitment
Upon acceptance into the Choir, you will be liable for some financial outlay, but this need not be a problem for anyone. Accommodating arrangements can be made if necessary. City Choir encourages full-time students to join the choir and their membership fees will be waived.
Scholarships for Young Singers
Several scholarships are available and each provides $500 plus free membership of the choir. Application for a scholarship may be made by email to members@citychoirdunedin.org.nz.
Applications must include the following:
- a short personal statement outlining why you believe you are a suitable candidate for this scholarship and how you would contribute to the choir; and
